I think this is kinda cool, especially given our space limitations in our current home. Our new house is bigger, but that doesn't mean I want more toys all over the place!
I'm considering this. . . However, I think it's more per month than I actually spend on toys right now.
Also, Pittsburgh has a toy library:

there's a toy library at the church on the corner of rittenhouse and walnut. I forget the name of it but I learned of it through the lamb playgroup we used to go to!
